Precious Metals Pummeled After FOMC Minutes
Welcome to Mining Stock Daily. I’m Trevor Hall. And I’m Paul Harris.
Today is Thursday, January 6th.
The gold price was looking to recover from its losses earlier in the week yesterday, reaching just above that $1,830 level futures basis. That was until the FOMC meeting minutes were released mid-day and cued sell-orders all around, including the precious metals. Gold is currently sitting around $1,790. Silver is also getting pummelled in early morning trading today, back below $23 to $22.28 at time of recording.
The FOMC Meeting Minutes unveiled an added level of concern over inflation running rampant in similar fashion to the Covid virus here in the United States and the idea of expediting the taper process, including an interest rate hike more likely needed in the spring rather than later in the year appears to be in the cards. The major markets in the US sold off as well on this news, with tech and the Nasdaq taking the biggest blow, down over 3% on the day.
We’ll get to the news out of the miners and explorers and just a moment, but first a quick mention of today’s sponsor.
